Topic :Workshop on Bloom Taxonomy A workshop was organized by Humera Khan College of Education on 06th July 2024 for FY.B.ED students (2023-2025)The event was in presence of Dr.Prof Avani Kanakia. And Guest speaker Mrs. Nusrat Siddiqui was there to guide the students for practice teaching. Bloom’s Taxonomy is a framework used to classify educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. It was developed by Benjamin Bloom and his collaborators in the 1950s. The taxonomy is widely used by educators to design curriculum, assessments, and instructional methods that promote higher-order thinking skills. It consists of three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Bloom’s original taxonomy divides this domain into six hierarchical levels, from simple to complex:
1- Remembering: Recalling facts and basic concepts. • Example: List the steps in the water cycle.
2 – Understanding: Explaining ideas or concepts. • Example: Summarize the main idea of a story.
3 – Applying: Using information in new situations. • Example: Use a formula to solve a problem.
4 – Analyzing: Breaking down information into parts to explore relationships. • Example: Compare and contrast two theories.
5 – Evaluating: Justifying a decision or course of action. • Example: Critique an argument.
6 – Creating: Producing new or original work. • Example: Design an experiment.
Objective : The main objective of Bloom’s Taxonomy is to provide a structured framework for educators to classify educational goals, objectives, and standards across varying levels of complexity and specificity, facilitating the development of higher-order thinking skills. By categorizing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains into hierarchical levels, it aids in designing curriculum, instructional methods, and assessments that progress from basic knowledge and comprehension to advanced analysis, evaluation, and creation, thereby promoting comprehensive and effective learning experiences.
Significance : The significance of Bloom’s Taxonomy lies in its ability to enhance educational practices by offering a clear and organized framework for setting learning objectives, crafting instructional strategies, and designing assessments. By categorizing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning into hierarchical levels, it enables educators to systematically encourage students to progress from foundational knowledge to higher-order thinking skills such as analysis, evaluation, and creation. This progression fosters deeper understanding, critical thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge in diverse contexts, ultimately contributing to more effective and meaningful learning outcomes.
Reflection : Bloom’s Taxonomy helps all the students to understand my learning progression, from remembering basic facts to creating original work. As a pupil teacher, it guides me in structuring lessons and assessments that promote higher-order thinking, ensuring students develop critical and analytical skills. This reflection fosters continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.
